William Finnerty is a compassionate therapist dedicated to the well-being and care of his clients. First and foremost, he prioritizes listening and getting to know his clients as individuals. He recognizes that each person is unique and that the proper mental health care looks different from person to person. He draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and person-centered approaches. William strives to create a therapeutic space where clients feel valued, understood, and respected. He is attentive to the ways that cultural background, identity, relationships, and broader social experiences can shape mental health and well-being. William has experience working with individuals of different ages, backgrounds, and cultures and values adapting his approach to meet each client where they are.
Therapy with William Finnerty
William particularly enjoys working with individuals who may feel hesitant about starting therapy but recognize that they are struggling or could benefit from additional support. He works with clients navigating stress, difficult life circumstances, identity and self-discovery, interpersonal challenges, and relationship concerns. Whether clients are feeling overwhelmed, going through a transition, struggling in their relationships, or simply looking for a space where they can feel heard and understood, William provides a supportive environment to explore what they are experiencing. He values collaboration and works with clients to identify meaningful goals and tailor therapy to their individual needs.
William graduated from NYU Steinhardt’s School of Culture, Education, and Human Development with his Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness. Prior to his graduate education, William received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Georgetown University. Outside of his education, William was a longtime competitive swimmer and currently coaches local swim teams. His experience as both an athlete and coach has shaped his appreciation for the role mental health plays in performance, resilience, personal growth, and overall well-being.
