Dr. Kimmy Ramotar

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Founder & Clinical Director

licensed clinical psychologist in NY, Dr. Kimmy Ramotar

Dr. Kimmy Ramotar, clinical psychologist, is the founder and director of Northeast Psychological Wellness. She specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents, and adults. She has extensive training in both cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic therapy. She provides psychotherapy to individuals struggling with various anxiety disorders, phobias, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), interpersonal/relationship difficulties, loss and grief, and a range of traumatic experiences.

Because each client comes with a unique history and individualized struggles, Dr. Ramotar tailors treatment to meet the specific needs and to highlight the strengths of every individual with whom she works. When determining the course of treatment, she first conducts a thorough evaluation of each of her clients’ current problems and areas of functioning that are affected, while also taking into consideration the individual’s past experiences and goals for treatment. She places great emphasis on creating a warm and supportive therapeutic space to explore her client’s problems—with the aim of developing new skills, fostering positive change, and increasing overall satisfaction and well-being.

Dr. Ramotar obtained a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University (LIU) – Post in Brookville, NY–where she also worked as an adjunct professor teaching psychology. At LIU, she received specialized training in CBT, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic therapy. She is also certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), which is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents who have been impacted by trauma. She was trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an evidence-based treatment designed to help young children with disruptive behavior problems, such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and opposition defiant disorder (ODD). Furthermore, Dr. Ramotar has extensive training in the treatment OCD using exposure and response prevention (ERP), which is the gold-standard approach for OCD. She also uses exposure therapy for various phobias (e.g., flying, insects, public speaking, etc.) and anxiety disorders, such as social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and illness anxiety disorder.

The breadth of her clinical experience is reflected in the diverse inpatient and outpatient settings in which she has worked. At Northeast Psychological Wellness, Dr. Ramotar enjoys providing training and clinical supervision to therapists with varying levels of experience and training. Prior to this practice, she worked as a clinical psychologist at Northwell Health Physicians Partners CBT Practice providing short-term, evidence-based treatment to adults and adolescents. At the Child Mind Institute in New York City, she worked extensively with children and adolescents diagnosed with anxiety, mood, and disruptive behavioral disorders, including selective mutism, social anxiety, depression, ADHD, and ODD. Another clinical experience at MercyFirst, a residential treatment center in Syosset, NY, afforded her the opportunity to treat adolescents who struggled with emotional and behavioral problems. Her skills in connecting with adolescent clients who were often resistant to receiving help from other providers often led to successful clinical outcomes. During her post-doctoral fellowship at the Community Health Center in Stamford, Connecticut, Dr. Ramotar provided individual and group therapy mainly to adult clients who presented with a range of emotional problems, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance use.
