Alvina Anantram, LMHC

Licensed Psychotherapist

Alvina Anantram is a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor who provides a warm, supportive, and culturally-sensitive space for her clients. She empowers her clients on their self-growth journey, by truly allowing them to feel heard and accepted.

Alvina has worked with adolescents and adults from a variety of cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities, and races. Her area of expertise is related to anxiety, depression, identity issues, relationship issues, life transitions, self-esteem, co-dependency challenges, social media use, and bullying. She explores and honors the multiple identities of her clients in order to better understand the way they view themselves, their challenges, and the world. Alvina encourages her clients to fully present as their authentic self, unapologetically, as they work together to honor a life that compliments their goals, values, and overall happiness. During sessions, barriers that keep clients feeling inadequate or misunderstood will be explored at their own pace. In doing so, Alvina customizes clinical interventions to meet the needs of each client.

When working with Alvina, clients can expect a safe, non-judgmental space to explore their experiences and challenges at their own pace. Through customized clinical interventions and coping skills, Alvina helps clients develop resilience, self-awareness, and self-acceptance. Together, steps will be taken to identify and dismantle internalized beliefs that perpetuate feelings of inadequacy and misunderstandings of oneself. With empathy and authenticity, Alvina is dedicated to helping her clients discover their strengths and reclaim their direction in life.

In addition to individual therapy, Alvina provides family therapy for adolescents and their families/caregivers. She takes a collaborative approach to family therapy sessions, ensuring that each individual’s voice is heard and supported. Alvina assists families in identifying and honoring a realistic family dynamic that compliments the family unit.

Alvina is trained in multiple therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills, and mindfulness techniques. Alvina also utilizes a trauma-informed approach to therapy, recognizing the profound impact that trauma has on an individual’s life. She assists clients with confronting the nature/impact of the trauma and developing emotional, physical, and psychological safety in order to restore a level of control. With these approaches, Alvina provides insight, confronts disordered thinking, while embodying self-compassion and gratitude to help clients thrive throughout their therapy journey.

Alvina graduated with her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from New York University and has received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from York University in Toronto.
