Mental Health Counseling Intern

Aliya brings a warm, nonjudgmental spirit to her work, honoring each client’s lived experience and walking alongside them on their journey toward healing, empowerment, and emotional growth. She takes a holistic, trauma-informed approach to therapy, drawing from psychodynamic theory, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based strategies to help clients navigate mental health challenges and cultivate deeper self-awareness. With a strong focus on the connection between past and present, Aliya supports clients in exploring how early life experiences shape current emotions, behaviors, and relationships. Her work is grounded in the belief that healing is not only possible, but also deeply transformative—and that reclaiming mental health is a powerful act of self-love and strength.
Aliya is especially passionate about working with survivors of trauma, and those experiencing anxiety, life transitions, executive dysfunction, and sport-related stress. She fosters a safe, affirming space where clients feel heard and empowered to explore their inner world, reconnect with their authentic selves, and build practical tools for everyday life. She encourages and integrates journaling, self-care practices, and creative expression—drawing from her academic training in art therapy—to foster self-introspection, relief, and personal growth.
Aliya is deeply committed to cultural humility and social justice. She is attuned to the ways that identity, stigma, and systemic barriers affect mental health—particularly within marginalized communities—and works to create an inclusive, supportive therapeutic environment for all clients.
Aliya’s diverse clinical background includes neuropsychological testing, physical and occupational therapy, ABA interventions for children with special needs, and support for older adults with cognitive challenges. She has worked with individuals across the lifespan, from children with autism and ADHD to college students and older adults navigating emotional distress and life transitions. Her experience as a student-athlete and coach informs her special interest in athlete mental health and the integration of mind-body practices in therapy.
Aliya is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at New York University.
